Today I wanted to answer a frequently asked question in my DMS!
“Lauren, what is your go-to when you are drinking alcohol? Do you even drink alcohol?”
Let’s be real here. When I’m in the thick of my CrossFit Games season, you might always see me opting out of alcohol with friends and family. But for me, it’s perfectly fine because my fiancé also competes with me so we both don’t drink and it makes it so much easier to stay on track.
Don’t get me wrong I do love myself a glass of wine with a good steak dinner or a margarita when we’re eating Mexican food. And I love to enjoy myself on special occasions when the whole family is together for a holiday like Christmas or Easter. I might even on these special occasions enjoy more than one drink, but it really depends who I’m with, if I’m on vacation, and where my next competition is at the moment. But if I do have one drink over the course of the week on a normal occasion, I’ve come to the realization it won’t kill my progress.
Although I don’t recommend these on the regular! Striving for a healthy balance is always key with any nutrition plan! Having a drink with the girls or for a celebration is great, but we all know that some of the most popular cocktails have a great amount of calories in them!
The average glass of wine is about 150-160 calories… and we all know you won’t stop at just one glass! A regular margarita typically has around 300.
Drinking your calories can be a hefty contributor to why you aren’t getting to where you want to be physically!
But I strive to live my life with BALANCE, and my diet is a reflection of that. And yours should be too!
SO with that being said, I thought I’d share my favorite healthy cocktail recipes! ALL under 100 Calories… 😱 I know, amazing!
ENJOY! And use responsibly!
Vodka & Club Soda with Lime
1 cup of ice 1 ounce of vodka 3 ounces of club soda 1/2 lime juiced 1 lime wedge for garnish

Tequila & Soda
This is a favorite drink of nutritionists, as tequila has a lower glycemic index than other alcohols, the soda is calorie-free and it pairs well with a variety of fruit and veggie garnishes, from classic lime to cucumber and orange. Seriously as simple as what is written above! Grab your favorite tequila and some soda water! Add a garnish of orange, lime, lemon or strawberries and you’ve got yourself a tasty drink!
Mom's Signature Frozen Margarita
It’s cinco de mayo so of course we needed to include a skinny margarita recipe! This is actually the drink of choice for my parents and I stole the recipe from them. 🙂
Ingredients for two: 4 oz silver tequila 6 oz freshly squeezed lime juice 3 tablespoons maple syrup, more or less to taste Crushed Ice to fill blender Coarse sea salt Lime wedge
Instructions: Use a lime wedge to wet the rims of 2 glasses and dip in salt (optional) To make margaritas, place all of the ingredients into your blender and blend on high until smooth and slushy-like. Pour into both glasses and enjoy!
I’m curious to hear in the comments below… What is your drink of choice? If so would love to hear what your go to recipe is!
